Grand

It seemed fitting that on a Sunday, we would go visit one of the most spectacular places on earth – The Grand Canyon.  We arrived mid-afternoon and walked the fourth mile walk around several scenic overlooks.  There really aren’t words to describe it.  Majestic, breathtaking, enormous, beautiful, none of them really capture its expanse.  Here are a few pictures that don't even begin to depict its beauty.

Let’s just break for a minute and talk about how this trip was a true growing experience for us as a couple, now a family.  Up until this time, David had been working insane 15+ hour days so not only was it difficult for much co-parenting to happen, we also weren’t able to do much of anything as a family either.  A big night for us was pretty much walking down for some froyo down the block, and walking back.  Immediately after leaving this job, we went straight down to Charlotte where we had multiple sets of hands all eager for us to leave our little guy with them so they could love on him. At one point, I even became concerned that he was getting constipated because it had been days since he had a poopy diaper.  However, David informed me that he had, in fact, had many a poopy diaper, but since helpful siblings and experienced grandparents were taking care of our child so much, we had hardly changed a diaper, much less a poopy one!  Oh the perks of being at home.  All that to say, this cross-country trip was really the first time that we had really ventured something of any magnitude since having a child.  David realized just how much adjusting and planning is necessary with the addition of a baby in the equation and I realized the necessity of releasing control and trying to be more flexible.  We are most definitely still working on this concept, but the Grand Canyon was the moment that we finally realized what the disconnect was with each other and in our approaches to our adventure.
Ok, back to the day.  So we hopped back in the car after a short hike and decided to drive the 25 mile scenic descent towards Flagstaff.  It was incredible.  There were multiple pull-offs where you can view the canyon from different perspectives and it was awesome.  Hopefully, one day, we will get to go back and hike around a little bit more.

We arrived in flagstaff pretty late and after hitting up a delicious pizza place, and devouring an obscene amount of pizza, we crashed for the night. Next up, Sedona, Arizona!
