Saturday was
mostly full of driving. We drove through
exactly what you would imagine of northern Texas and New Mexico - prairie and
desert. Like this.
However, we made a few stops to
note. Our first stop centered around
food (per the usual for us). We found an
amazing little burger joint, Coyote Bluff Café that was featured on Man Vs.
Food. It was scrumptious. The burgers were greasy, caloric and delicious,
and beer bottles were served from a giant bathtub in the middle of the
restaurant.
We packed in some
miles after lunch, and drove straight up to Santa Fe. The scenery improved significantly, but unfortunately, there
wasn’t as much to do there as we expected.
We wished we had driven to Albuquerque instead, but we did enjoy an
eclectic stop at a quirky folk art museum in Santa Fe. It reminded me a lot of my crafty sister-in-law,
Elizabeth. Many of the displays were
elaborate village scenes.
The people
were made from different types of fabric and the detailing came from
embroidery, beading, and the use of a variety of other mediums.
The drive down to
Albuquerque was short, only about an hour.
The check-in process took forever at our hotel due to an irate couple
ahead of us. An extremely large, short
woman in a j Despite our exhaustion, it provided quite a
captivating scene. eans skirt, tshirt, tennis shoes, and dyed blonde hair turned orange, and her extraordinarily tall, skinny, bald husband were furious because they had gotten scammed by some “free vacation” offer.
After finally making it to our room and deciding we were totally sick of eating out, David sweetly went out and got us the ingredients to make a salad. While he was gone, I attempted a workout routine of squats and lunges in which Nathan was my 15 lb weight. He ended up being a little more like those “as seen on TV” shake weights. We spent a restful night in Albuquerque and got on the road first thing in the morning, headed for the Grand Canyon!
Oh cute dolls! I would have loved to see that :-)
