Nathan didn’t get the memo about the time change, so he was
all smiles on Thursday morning by 6:15.
We enjoyed a fairly slow morning and got on the road by 8, heading to
Memphis. Unfortunately, we weren’t able
to stop at Graceland like we were planning.
We decided to take advantage of Nathan’s nap and get back on the road
after lunch. However, not before we enjoyed
a delicious (and messy!) meal of bbq at a hole-in-the-wall place right near
downtown.
Wish we could have explored a
little. It looks like a fun city!
We headed across the bridge over the
Mississippi River and marveled at just how expansive it is!! It was so much wider than we expected!
The landscape changed almost instantly and we
drove our way through brown nothingness towards Little Rock.
We didn’t expect
quite so much of nothing, so we decided to try to push it all the way to Tulsa,
Oklahoma to visit David’s Aunt and Uncle and whatever other family was
available. Unfortunately, Nathan decided
9 hours in the car was more than enough (understandably), so we busted out the
“baby crack” (Baby Einstein) for the last 20 minutes, and stopped in Fort
Smith, Arkansas.
(Look at that innocent little face)
We decided to get
takeout and eat in the hotel so we had a fairly comical meal eating on the
hotel room bed hovered over takeout boxes, drinking wine from plastic bathroom
Dixie cups, sitting in a mostly dark room in an effort not to wake Nathan. We really felt like Nomads. We finished our healthy meal of chicken
fingers and fries and fell into food coma, glad for an early night to bed and a
relaxing morning to come the following morning.
